Always on a reusable bag tangent, a while back I went on a search for a great beach bag. I wanted a beach tote that didn’t have pink flamingos or “Life’s a Beach” splashed across it. I know you all have more style than that and want to express even while trekking across the sand. I found a company called Bring it in a Bag. I love the straight-forward approach to their name and love their bags even more.

Bring it in a Bag makes a number of different styles and uses:

The Large Round Totes are great for my beach bag option; since they have a thin laminate lining, which makes them great for wet and sandy clothes. They are all made of natural jute, so sand just falls right off. I got the Coco Brown one!

Wine Bags will go to use, since we can give a bag that we know they will reuse and they come in a wealth of fun designs. Realizing the holidays are fast approaching where I will find myself toting many a bottle of wine to the latest holiday bash, I will be sure to get a few of these.

Gift Bags will come in handy for other gift gifting needs over the holidays. They come in different colors and patterns such as snowflakes, flowers, or just solids. Check out their Mini Jute Bags. So cute.

The other beauty of all these bags is that they will personalize them in any way, which makes them great not only for gifts, but for promotional uses for your business or special event.

All Bring it in a Bag products are made with recyclable materials, as well as the main ingredient being Jute. If you aren’t familiar with jute, it is a plant fiber that grows along coastal waters, and has a high strength quality as well as being biodegradable. Bring it in a Bag also works hard to promote philanthropy through the communities they live in and the organizations they help support such as EarthShare and AIM for Seva.

So whether you need a new tote to bring home your groceries or want to bring your gift bags up a notch, Bring it in a Bag has something for all your toting needs.

Extra tip: Right now if you go to Bring it in a Bag, you will get 20% of a purchase of $50!

eco-fashionstylish organic jacket

After comprising my  Eco-fashion fall style look; I received a press release about another Eco foward fashion designer, Indigenous Design. I LOVE LOVE LOVE their Eco-friendly knits. Not only Indigenous Design purveyers of Organic fabrics but they are also Fair-trade. A definite plus in Jolly Green Girl’s eyes. These stylish duds are J- Crewish but made Eco-conscious in their use of Organic cotton and knits.

Indigenous Design support Fair Trade by establishing cooperatives with textile artisans from all over the world. “Each Indigenous garment is handmade in Indigenous-initiated fair-trade cooperatives in which the female knitters generally make two to three times more than they would have made otherwise.” And now you can get these Eco-fashion duds in World of Goods by Ebay. In a press release by the Press Room:

Consumers have come to trust and recognize the Indigenous brand to stand for integrity and quality in fair-trade and organic apparel,” said Indigenous CEO and co-founder Scott Leonard. “We are involved with WorldofGood.com because we believe the site furthers the message of fair-trade values to consumers and empowers them to make socially responsible decisions.”

By joining World of Good, Indigenous will have the opportunity to reach eBay’s more than 84 million active users, exposing them to the Indigenous’ high-quality, organic and fair-trade apparel that honors both people and planet. Way to step up the game there Indigenous. It’s nice to see that a company will get a high profile exposure while maintaining their green standards.

I long for the day… that one day that we can settle down and call a piece of land our own. Of course, the land really belongs to Mother Earth. But we can always dream of our own private Idaho. Although I am not a fan of pre-fab houses; the HingeHouse modern and ecofabulous Prefabs just might change my mind. Designed with the environment in mind; they are stylish, modern, and the perfect place for the Eco-conscious and the modernist.

We know that an eco-friendly resort does its best to protect the local land and culture and being easy on the planet, while simultaneously providing a beautiful paradise that fulfills our desire to have the ultimate vacation. So how do they do that? How do we know we are choosing a resort for our next vacation that holds our same beliefs and actually “walk the walk”?

When looking for an eco-friendly resorts there are a few characteristics you should look for:

1.  Were the grounds kept as close as possible to its natural state?

A resort should “blend harmoniously” as possible with its surroundings.

2.  For the most part, is the staff made up of locals?
An eco-friendly hotel should support the local community in all it does. This includes the people cleaning your room, bringing your Mai-tai, or teaching your yoga class.

3.  Does the resort attempt to conserve energy as much as possible?
We would like to see gigantic solar panels on every hotel and resort, but they should at least be doing what they can. Do they use natural candles or even torches in place of 100’s of light fixtures? Do they use compact fluorescent bulbs, and did they leave many of those natural trees in place to provide shade? Just looking around the grounds or asking questions, will tell you if the resort cares enough to make the small changes necessary that will make big strides in saving energy. Also, do your part by turning off the lights, fans and air conditioner when you leave your room.

4.  Is housekeeping using green, non-toxic cleaning products and reusable cleaning supplies?
There are increasingly more cleaning product lines out there to choose from. With all the cleaning hotels and resorts do, they should be first in line to use these.

5.  Do they encourage guests to reuse their towels and other linens to avoid repeated washings?
We want to pampered, but come on. You can hang up your towels and we certainly don’t wash our bedding at home everyday, we sure don’t need it washed daily when we’re on vacation.
Stop trying to be so high-fallutin’.

6.  Are the local farmers and fishermen providing the food that is served at the resort?
This goes along with supporting the local community. By buying local goods, they are supporting the local economy. Besides, they taste better!

7.  What are they doing to prevent excessive food waste?
Leftover food can be donated to local shelters and food banks. Does your favorite resort do this?

8.  Do they give back to the community in the way of conservation efforts or community improvement projects?
This should be something any big resort should do since it is the community culture, the people, and surrounding areas that make a tourism hot spot, so I threw it in there.

9.  Are they a resort that discourages the use of technology while being a guest?
More and more resorts are turning off the TVs, computers, even phones. Remember, this is your time to relax. You WILL survive without modern technology for a few days! It’s been proven.

10.  Do they must have recycle systems in place?
This goes without saying.

This just scratches the surface on the things hotels and resorts can do to be more environmentally conscious. Spend time at the ones that are taking steps in the right direction.
